Neutral Home Decor Ideas, Gray Kitchen Cabinets & Arched Door Ways
Residential Interior Design Project
Where: Dallas metro area
Designing for: Empty Nestors
Type of Design: New Build
Style: Neutral Home Decor Ideas with Gray Cabinets
A long-time client hired us to help her parents’ relocate from an 1800s upstate New York home to a brand new Dallas home. The open floor plan and high ceilings allow natural light to flood each downstairs room. The clients requested neutral home decor with a touch of blue throughout.
Our Dallas Interior Design firm led by Dee Frazier selected everything form flooring, lighting, tile, countertops, light fixture, backsplashes, custom cabinetry, window coverings, furniture, art and accessories.
While the natural light is excellent, the lack of wall space for art, accessories, and furniture placement was limited. With a list of “must incorporate” furnishings, the D’KOR HOME design team created a 3-D rendered design plan and a full presentation of design ideas complete with all home furnishings, custom built-ins, cabinetry designs & finishes, flooring finishes, tile designs & tile layouts with installation instructions, and all final touches to turn this new build into the dream home our client’s wanted.
gray kitchen cabinets with charcoal stained island
Whether a sunny summer day or enduring winter weather, dining or playing games on the dark mahogany dining table perfectly balances the charcoal-stained island. Mixing textures and tones throughout the kitchen continues with the oversized chrome open lantern pendants, stainless steel appliances, and cabinetry hardware. The white quatrefoil backsplash adds depth and interest. Wood tones from the flooring juxtapose the barstools.
The goal for this kitchen was to bring contrast and depth, with everything being neutral. Our interior design firm selected two tones of gray for the cabinets and island. The tile selected was white tile coordinated nicely with the white quartz countertops creating a nice clean feel to the kitchen. All the lighting and appliances were selected in silver tones to give a reflective surface which acts as a neutral with the gray cabinetry.

The counter stools frames are a natural wood-tone that coordinates with the wood flooring. The barstool performance fabric will withstand all future kitchen activities. All the accessories included neutral colors and glass with just a touch of blue to bring in the color without being overstated.
Functional Window Treatments
Contrasting and layering timeless neutral fabrics & tile patterns were vital. Mixing modern art & new transitional furnishings without distracting one’s eye allows the new gardens to take precedence. Functional window shades were essential for privacy. With the flick of a switch or Alexa command, the shades are out of sight during the day or easily lowered for afternoon naps in the living room. The window treatments were selected in an off-white to bring in another layer of white again. The window treatments were designed with height to balance the height of the cabinets in the kitchen.
Mixing Metals & Finishes Create Interest
Throughout neutral home decor we add multiple metal finishes such as polished chrome table on the table base and the foyer bench. Polished chrome acts as a natural reflector, much like a mirror. Other finishes are natural blonde woods and charcoal stain on the island and deep ebony stain on the mahogany dining table. Mixing finishes give a sense of depth and interest in a space.
Custom Built-In Book Shelves
We often recommend custom built-in book shelves or cabinetry to provide clients with more space and customized functions to their needs and lifestyle. With our Dallas custom millwork and cabinet shop, our custom cabinetry is affordable and in the perfect finishes to suit our clients needs.
